Climbing and the body

Strength, balance and mobility, going vertical

Climbing asks a great deal of fingers, wrists, forearms, shoulders and back, which pull for long periods, and at the same time it asks for open hips, balance and precise footwork. The body often works in extreme positions, and the mind has to stay calm even far off the ground.

The practice is built around your level, your body and the kind of climbing you do.

What we work on

A practice built around the wall

  • Hip mobilityTo get your feet high, stay close to the wall and make better use of your legs.
  • Shoulders and backMobility and rebalancing for muscles that are always pulling on the wall. Work to help prevent strains and overload.
  • Forearms, wrists and handsStrengthening and releasing tension, with recovery of the areas that work hardest.
  • Balance and coreStability and control on delicate moves, by building a solid, functional core.
  • Breath and calmBreath control to manage tension and stay clear-headed on hard moves.

The three pillars

Breath, body, mind

Breath

Breath control to manage tension and energy during the climb.

Body

Mobility, alignment and myofascial work for more efficient movement with less compensation.

Mind

Concentration and presence to stay clear-headed on the most demanding moves.
